LEAN MANUFACTURING If you would like to work in a manufacturing or production-related field, you might see that nearly every job ad is seeking employees with extensive knowledge in lean manufacturing, and some of them are even looking for people with certificates. Since lean manufacturing methodology has become a universal industry standard, it is a good idea to learn about it to boost your CV and increase your luck with your job search. Or, if you are already working, you can be sure that lean manufacturing courses will help you take the necessary steps towards your career goals. What Is Lean Manufacturing? The basic understanding of lean manufacturing can easily be guessed by the name. This type of manufacturing focuses on production with the smallest amount of resources possible, in the shortest amount of time, with the lowest budget, and as few mistakes as possible. Lean manufacturing tries to answer all of the customer demands, uses every single potential possible and the process of it should be as flexible as possible. There are no unnecessary features, steps, resources, or plans included in the lean manufacturing process. These features can include budget, mistakes, stocks, labor, development process, and production field. Every feature in this list should be minimized as much as possible in the lean manufacturing process. Lean Manufacturing Principles There are five principles of lean manufacturing. These key points can be learned through lean manufacturing courses. They can be listed as follows: Identifying Value The first key principle of lean manufacturing is to identify the value. For this step, companies should carefully analyze what their customers demand and expect. If their demands are met through the final product then comes the other part of this step, that is, eliminating the unnecessary features. The final product should carry all the demands but nothing more to eliminate waste. Lean manufacturing focuses only on the demands of the customer and does not add unwanted features. Mapping the Value Stream Every product has a lifecycle. This cycle includes the design and the manufacturing of the product, the customer’s use, and the disposal of the product. Every step of this cycle should be carefully analyzed and mapped, so it becomes easy to detect mistakes or any weak points in the process. Creating Flow The third principle of lean manufacturing focuses on efficiency. After mapping out the value stream, the manufacturers now can seamlessly repeat the cycle without any interruptions other than fixing any possible defects and mistakes. Establishing Pull A pull system is a manufacturing system that focuses on decreasing workload by shipping the produced items to the customers and then prompts a new production. This system increases the output, eliminates waste, and uses all of the workspaces in hand. Seeking Perfection With lean manufacturing, the goal must always be achieving perfection. Anything below that goal will cause missteps and defects in this system. Seeking perfection is the most important principle of lean manufacturing and should be applied to every step of the process. Lean Manufacturing Courses Anyone who wants to work on the manufacturing side of the business should consider getting a certification in lean manufacturing. The certification will be proof of your tactical thinking and your consideration of the company you’re applying to. There are different levels of lean manufacturing certification and to receive them, you can start taking online lean manufacturing courses right now!
